This website came about due to the diligence of Martin Richardson, having grown up in Paynesville himself in the 60s and 70s and then returning to raise his own family in 2010, who had a dream of being able to access and research the history, names, stories, photos and memories of the old Paynesville, in the one place.
Knowing it would be an arduos but enjoyable task, never quite envisioning just how monumental, collaborative and preoccupying it would be, Martin zealously sought sponsorship from local council, businesses and community members. There are many thanks to be conveyed to many people for their support and tireless efforts in compiling these stories and photographs, without which this project would not have been possible. Please visit our sponsors page to view the vast array of businesses and people who have supported us.
The Paynesville Memories website is the start of a social history of Paynesville, as recalled by the people who were there, or who know people who were there. It includes stories about people and what they did, what they remember and what was special. Anyone can contribute, no matter how long they have loved Paynesville. The site will continue to grow as more and more stories and photos come to light.
